Conclusion

Thank you for reading through my e-portfolio; one thing I found challenging during my journey though the Master of Education program and the process of putting this e-portfolio together was the critical reflection component. Sixteen years of primary and secondary education in the Asian education system taught me how to memorize and regurgitate facts; as a result, I have always found it challenging to think critically and self-reflect on the learning that is taking place within me.  However, I think I have come a long way and will continue to improve in my ability to think critically and self-reflect.

Looking through my learning goals, I think I achieved all of them but with a varying degree of success.  I have become a more competent adult educator, but I doubt one can ever claim to be done in the journey of becoming a better teacher.  I am actively engaged in distance course development; however, whether my effort enhances and improves the learners' experience, remains to be seen, and sometimes it is difficult to measure the results.  I am more aware than ever of the barriers post-secondary instructors face in incorporating technology into their daily teaching and learning activities, but most importantly, I feel I was able to play a small role in breaking down those barriers. I want to continue to advocate and champion for distance education and those who work in the field.

Upon the completion of this e-portfolio, I came to an interesting but slightly ironic discovery: I exhibit many of the characteristics of an adult learner.  When I first started the journey, I did not expect to have so many opportunities to incorporate my personal and professional experiences into my course work. Looking back however, I am not surprised as adult learners are interested in subjects that have immediate relevance to their personal and professional lives. In addition, most of my artifacts started out with the intention of resolving a problem I had experienced in my personal and/or professional life because as Knolwes has pointed out, adult learners are problem-oriented instead of content-oriented.

Looking forward, I plan on continuing to hone my craft, both as an adult educator and an adult learner.  There is no one better situated than a computer technology instructor to be a life-long learner as computer technology changes quickly.

I look forward to continuing to apply what I have learned in my professional life, and specifically, I am excited about the possibility to one day continue with the research project (Artefact 4) I have formulated.
